鵲豆 Lablab purpureus
豆科扁豆屬植物中的一支
耐旱耐溼的鵲豆
比起其它食用豆類價值
也許不甚出色
但卻是鄒族的特殊雜糧作物
族人普遍稱它山扁豆
成熟曬乾的山扁豆
與山豬肉同煮是絕配
只用來招待重要賓客或長輩
鵲豆通常不種在耕地上
反而在崩塌坡地或山壁上更能適性生長
鵲豆約在11月是盛花期
近年來鄒族也舉辦「生命豆季」儀式
即取鵲豆旺盛的生命力
能在任何惡劣環境自繁自茂的意涵
同時納入集團婚禮一併舉行
藉以激發鄒族堅韌、生生不息精神
鄒族古老傳統中有關於鵲豆的儀式活動早成軼聞傳說
直到近來才從中提煉文化元素
恢復舉辦並賦予時代新意
